A section of US-12 in Saline is expected to be closed until later this afternoon following a water main break Tuesday night, the city said.

The break occurred on US-12 at Davenport between 10 and 10:30 p.m. The asphalt bubbled over a 10-to-15 foot long stretch, and water started pouring out, said Saline Police Chief Paul Bunten.

A detour is in effect between Davenport Street and Maple Road.

"They've got the main fixed now, but they've got to get the road fixed," Bunten said. Saline's department of public works is working on the road, and the Michigan Department of Transportation has sent inspectors.
