WCC Board of Trustees hopeful could face difficulty occupying seat

By Cole Bertsos

Washtenaw Community College Board of Trustees hopeful William Hazen Figg may have a difficult time occupying his seat if elected come November, according to The Washtenaw Voice, the WCC student newspaper.

The story said that Figg, a former welding instructor, turned in his "resignation in lieu of termination" in 2009, after 38 years at the school. As an additional term, he signed an agreement with Human Resources which would give him emeritus status, but also banned him from being on campus or contacting any college employees.

Figg has yet to contact HR for his campus status, said the Voice.

. . . because, Salineteacher, whether or not he'll be permitted on campus is much more important than the circumstances of why it happened in the first place, not to mention the question of whether or not Mr. Figg's motivation for running for the board might be very personal in nature. By the way, A2.com, good job on this story!!! Not only scooped yet again by the WCC student newspaper yet again, but it took you a week to repost the Voice's story. Maybe you might do a little of your own . . . you know . . . Investigating . . . To find out what happened and to publish that story some time before the election? Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. For, if you were to do that, you might actually be mistaken for something that resembled an honest-to-God newspaper.

In defense of AnnArbor.com, the Washtenaw Voice is a pretty good read, and those students know good stories, how to investigate them and get to them first.

Uh, no, if Figg wins he *IS* the college and wouldn't be bound by such an agreement.
