Willow Run school board president ousted from office
Voters in the Willow Run school district threw Sheri Washington off the school board Tuesday, adding another layer to the ongoing saga in the troubled district.
Washington, the school board president, had been the driving force in the board's removal and eventual firing of former superintendent Doris Hope-Jackson. Hope-Jackson is suing the district and Washington personally over that move.
Instead of Washington, voters returned incumbent Don Garrett Jr. to his seat and tapped Brenda Meadows to replace Washington. Garrett garnered 2,054 votes. Meadows got 2,006 votes, and Washington got 1,874 votes.
Incumbent Kristine Thomas was elected to a partial term. Write-in candidate Gregory Lovell Myers also was elected to a separate partial term.

How fast the tide changes. Employees and the public begged for intervention during Dr. Hope-Jackson's time in Willow Run. Sheri Washington was the first and for a long time the only board member to take concerns seriously. Now after not being re-elected, not one positive comment for her on this blog. There is no justice here. Ms Washington took on the work that no one wanted to take on. The district is moving forward and beginning to stabilize. There is still much work to be done. Make no mistake, without the work that Ms. Washington was willing to take on, the district would probably still be under the direction of Dr. Hope-Jackson and Ms Hicks through the 2012 school year. Willow Run did not have the stomach for Dr. Hope-Jackson and evidently they did not have the stomach for her removal.

Its about time she's gone. She has cost this district WAY to much money. Thank you voters for showing her that we're done playing the "Washington" game. Hopefully the new president will have a level head. This is the best for the district, the employe's and the CHILDREN that go here. The Kids come 1st except in "Washington's world" she seems to come 1st. Ha Washington your the LOSER now!!!!!!

Clifford Smith should have been "thrown" off the Board. He was the puppeteer behind Sheri Washington.

This article is awfully biased. Washington wasn't thrown out, she lost the election. There's enough drama in this situation without Annarbor.com adding to it!

Justice! "another layer to the ongoing saga..." She created some of the saga! Now the district might be able to continue the path of improvement. Let her and Jackson fight it out somewhere else!!
