Winter weather advisory remains in effect until 2 p.m. for Ann Arbor area
Editor's note: The winter weather advisory has been canceled. As of 11:30 a.m., however, the National Weather Service was still predicting periods of freezing rain in the Ann Arbor area this afternoon.
Although freezing precipitation is moving in more slowly than forecasters originally predicted, a winter weather advisory remains in effect in the Ann Arbor area until 2 p.m. this afternoon, the National Weather Service said.
"The subfreezing air hasn't made it that far south quite yet," said Rich Pollman, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in White Lake. "Temperatures are going to fall throughout the day." By early afternoon, the Ann Arbor area could see a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow, he said.
Roads may become ice-covered and hazardous. Icing of tree limbs and power lines is expected. Tonight, the precipitation is expected to change to snow.

Icing of trees and power lines is possible today.
Just before 7:30 a.m. the temperature in Ann Arbor was 34 degrees, but it's expected to fall to 31 degrees by 4 p.m., the weather service said.
Forecasters originally thought the cold air would arrive early this morning, Pollman said. Had that happened, rain that's fallen over the past couple of hours could have turned to ice, creating hazardous road conditions or even power outages.
Areas to the north weren't so lucky. Power outages have already been reported in Lapeer County, where freezing rain fell on top of about 3-5 inches of snow, loading up tree limbs and power lines with enough weight to snap.
"In Pontiac we've had freezing rain," he said. "Our trees have a nice glaze on them." The weather service said precipitation may be heavy at times and thunder is possible this morning.
Tonight, snow is likely mainly before midnight, but less than half an inch of accumulation is expected.
Colder temperatures will stick around for a while. Through Tuesday of next week, the forecast calls for high temperatures in the 30s.

It's a lot worse north of here. Our Flint offices are closed today.

It has been extended to 5:00. Oddest warning I've ever seen - we're about 12 hours in, and still no ice. I don't doubt it will get bad at some point, but they've really missed so far.

At 7am this morning the roads were wet but not icy. I hope that stays like this for the morning commute.
