WISD student reported missing is back with family

By Kyle Feldscher

This story has been clarified to show that the student got on a bus he wasn't scheduled to take. Initial information from deputies indicated he had got on the wrong bus.

The Washtenaw Intermediate School District student who was reported missing from Washtenaw Community College Tuesday was found last night and reunited with his family, officials said.

Emma Jackson, spokeswoman for the WISD, and Sgt. Geoffrey Fox, of the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed Wednesday the 18-year-old student was back with his family.

Fox said the student had boarded a bus he was not supposed to be on.

The student, whose first name is Fletcher, was reported missing Tuesday afternoon.

Glad to hear that the outcome was good. I only wish the update here had been more timely, though I heard from another source about 10 pm that Fletcher had been found. I feel for the family who had to endure even a few hours of uncertainty about his safety.

Glad to hear the good news. We don't need any bad news.

Got a computerized call telling of the missing student and what to do if found. "Call 900 1 1 to report ..." While most people would figure the correct phone number to be dialed was "911" are good citizens really expected to pay a 900 number service fee for the call or does the more-efficient outsourced government need to find a more astute software contractor to program their alert notification system.

I have to wonder, knowing who the student was, if this will have an impact on how the BOE thinks about the transportation issue in AAPS? It will be interesting to watch for a shift in the transportation debate. I would expect there will be one. It is too bad this happened, but it can be used as a lesson learned by the board, I hope they take it that way. And no....it was not an AAPS issue but a WISD issue, but it did/does directly impact the board.

Oh please leave them alone on this one.

Cette - Do a bit more digging on this one. I think you will find it absolutely does involve transportation. Again the issue is not with AAPS transportation. But it is about transportation.

This doesn't reflect transportation issues. Thank goodness for a good outcome.
