Washtenaw Intermediate School District will hold a bus driver job fair.

The WISD is hiring more than 100 bus drivers as it ramps up the start of a consolidated transportation system in the county, covering the Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti and Willow Run school districts.

The WISD is looking for full-time, part-time and substitute bus drivers.

Pay starts at $13 per hour with benefits and retirement for full-time drivers, along with a lump sum attendance incentive.

Part-time positions pay $15.25 per hour, but don't include benefits.

A valid driver's license and a good driving record is required.

“Free training will be provided. If successful candidates work for at least 90 days, they will receive compensation for the training,” WISD Human Resources Director Winnie Garrett said.

So you agree that paying $4000 in deductibles is a great incentive? I don't mind saying I love being a bus driver but I can't afford this kind of deductible especially with this kind of pay. Fun job. Just a thought.

Cheers Edward! Nothing 'fantastic' about the union-busting, wage-gouging attack on public sector workers. "Ramps up the start of" consolidation is someone's euphemism for "desperately tries to fill the gaping hole in it's labor force so that school bus routes aren't cut by almost a third in the Fall." But, there you go.

@Edward You dont get 40 hours a week, more like 20 to 25. Did you think that kids just ride the bus for 8 hours a day?

Fantastic money and benefits (including retirement)!! I don't have a retirement package with my company and I've been working there 12 years. And the former bus drivers for AAPS were complaining about their pay? This is great pay and bennies for this type of job.

If you don't like kids, PLEASE don't apply. I have met more than one school bus driver that should not be working in a student contact position. I was a school bus driver in grad school, and I loved the job. This job would be perfect for a stay-at-home parent whose kids are in school; their days off are your days off for the most part!
