Woman being held against her will jumps out of van in Ypsilanti Township

By Lee Higgins

A 67-year-old Ypsilanti Township man accused of holding a woman in a van against her will and assaulting her was arrested Sunday, Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies said.

The man spent the day with the 35-year-old woman, and she asked to be dropped off Sunday night, a sheriff's department incident summary said. He refused to let her out of the van, the summary said.

That's when she jumped out of the van while it was moving, and he stopped it, deputies said. He assaulted her and attempted to pull her back inside until someone intervened and scared the man off, according to the summary. The woman suffered minor injuries.

The man was later arrested at his home and was taken to the Washtenaw County Jail. He is expected to be arraigned today.
