Pittsfield Township police say a woman suffered broken teeth and a broken jaw when a man attacked her while selling her a puppy at a Day's Inn.

The woman, a 24-year-old Belleville resident, told police the man came to her room in the Day's Inn in the 2300 block of Carpenter Road at about 12:13 a.m. to sell her a pit bull puppy.

Gordy Schick, the department’s deputy director of police services, said the woman and the man had set up the meeting prior to this morning. He said the man agreed to sell the dog for $100, but attacked when he saw the victim had more money in her wallet.

“He then punched her in the mouth and took the wallet,” Schick said. “The next thing you know, the suspect was gone and so was her money.”

Schick said the man, described as a black male in his 20s, did bring the puppy to the premises. It was unclear whether the dog was left there.

The woman said she didn't know the man, but Schick said the incident is considered suspicious. He said police intend to interview the woman further today.

“We’re still working off limited information right now,” he said. “There is definitely more to this story.”
