AnnArbor.com seeks nominations for 2011 Young Citizen of the Year Award
When Tim VanRiper was named AnnArbor.com’s 2010 Young Citizen of the Year, he was 18 years old. In his young life, he had already traveled to places like Tanzania and Biloxi, Miss., where he volunteered his services to those in need. He had also helped to raise money in support of leukemia research and for earthquake victims in Haiti.
VanRiper’s passion for making the world a better place compelled two individuals to nominate him for the young citizen award.
It’s that attitude of service that AnnArbor.com seeks to honor with the 2011 Young Citizen of the Year Award. We’re accepting nominations of deserving high school students through Friday, May 15. The award was created by The Ann Arbor News in 1998. After The News closed in 2009, AnnArbor.com announced that it would continue recognizing the service and leadership of young people in our community. The winner and nine finalists for this year’s award will be announced in June.
The winner receives a $2,000 scholarship from AnnArbor.com. Finalists receive $1,000 scholarships from the Robert Bruce Dunlap Fund of the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation.
To nominate a student, please click here to fill out our online form. If you unable to submit a form online, copies of the nomination form are available in AnnArbor.com’s Community space, at 301 E. Liberty St., in downtown Ann Arbor.

@Yuxibbs we encourage students to have an adult make a nomination on their behalf. However, we do not prohibit students from nominating themselves. In any case be, sure all required information is complete, including references.

Someone should automatically enter every 18 year old Boy Scout that will receive his Eagle Scout before his 18th birthday. They provide the service and leadership every day. Does anyone realize that there is a program out there that provides hundreds of Ann Arbor young men the support and training that this award purports to support?
