Ypsilanti and Pittsfield fire departments respond to fire at vacant house
The Ypsilanti fire department and the Pittsfield Township fire department responded to a suspicious fire early Monday morning at a vacant house located at 875 Jefferson St. in Ypsilanti.
Firefighters arrived on the scene at 12:20 a.m. and Capt. Max Anthouard said it took two hours and 27 minutes to put the fire out.
"We were able to get the fire out and we had a house on the east side that we were able to protect," Anthouard said.
Officials are estimating the fire caused about $30,000 worth of damage and the building is "pretty much destroyed."
"It's still standing but it's going to be an eyesore," Anthouard said.
Fire Chief Jon Ichesco said the fire is being deemed suspicious because the vacant building had no gas, electricity or any other sort of hazards that could potentially have caused a fire.
The captain said a fire occurred at the same location three years ago.
