The Ypsilanti Fire Department is opening up its doors for Fire Prevention Week, which runs from Sunday to Oct. 13.

There will be an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Kids will have the opportunity to check out the equipment at that time.

"They can come see the firetrucks," said Capt. Max Anthouard.

City residents can get free smoke detectors and even have fire personnel install them in their homes. Fire officials will be available to provide free safety inspections for city residents.

Anthouard said residents interested in the smoke detectors or the inspections should call the Ypsilanti Fire Department at (734) 482-9778.
