Ypsilanti firefighters extinguish car fire on Washtenaw Avenue

By Lee Higgins

Ypsilanti firefighters extinguished a car fire Tuesday afternoon in the 1300 block of Washtenaw Avenue, fire officials said.

A woman went inside a day care center to pick up her child about 4:52 p.m., leaving her 10-year-old son in the car, an Ypsilanti police incident log said.

Her son saw smoke coming from the car's radio and went inside to tell his mother, according to the log. When the two walked outside, they noticed the interior of the car was on fire, the log said.

Firefighters responded and quickly put out the blaze.

It says the boy saw smoke coming from the radio, which makes me think about an ashtray usually being right under the radio in a car. I know cigarettes have the "fire safe" chemical now so they go out when you don't puff on them, but it's still possible it could start something if she closed the ashtray before getting out of the car.

What kind of car was it? Was it left running? Who serviced it last...a car dealer in Brooklyn?

Same here (with A2.com). What, do people want disclaimers or footnotes to go along with titles now? Please. Title and article are fine as is.

This story is not related to the arsons and the headline is cheap ploy because you can't tell me that you didn't know that people would assume it was related.
