Ypsilanti police arrest man with loaded gun

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Ypsilanti police say they arrested a 19-year-old man with a loaded handgun this afternoon after a citizen called to report a man on the street with a gun in his hand.

Another person with that man was arrested on a warrant.

Police say they received a call at about 2:30 p.m. reporting a man walking in the area of Ballard and Congress with two other men and a gun in his hand.

Officers found the three men about two blocks away in the 300 block of Hawkins Street. They discovered the 19-year-old Ypsilanti man had a fully loaded Beretta .25-caliber handgun in his pants pocket, a police press release said.

The man was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon and was lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail.

A second man was arrested on an unspecified warrant, and the third man was released at the scene, police said.

Very good job, I recieved calls that police was grabing youths left and right.(including my son) until they found this kid with a gun. I tried explaining to my son that if you hang with that type of crowd there is a price to pay and police have a job to do even if it has to effect innocent people without violating any rights. Very good job Ypsi police... Keep doing what you do...

GOOD JOB Ypsilanti police, you are brave and very well trained.. Also, job well-done to the citizen that made the call, if it wasn't you, a murder could have occurred.
