Man sent to hospital after shooting at party in Ypsilanti

By Sven Gustafson

Ypsilanti police were looking for a suspect in connection with a reckless discharge of a firearm at a party early Sunday that sent a man to the hospital for treatment of an injury.

The incident happened around 1:40 a.m. Sunday at a large party on the 600 block of Emmet Street. Police say the suspect fired a black semi-automatic handgun into the ground near the victim, who was injured when the bullet ricocheted and grazed his right ankle.

The victim, a 25 year-old Ypsilanti Township man, was taken to a local hospital for treatment and later released. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived.

The suspect and victim were strangers to one another, police say.

The suspect is described as a black male in his early 20s, standing 5-foot-7 to 6 feet tall, with a light complexion and wearing a grey zip-up jacket.

Abe, Actually the blame on biased reporting belongs squarely and SOLELY on the shoulders of AA.com If you would join the next AAPD offering of their Citizens, Police, Fire and Courts Academy you would be disabused of that notion. Not to mention learn lots of other valuable info and have fun. Or simply subscribing to Nixle.com or CrimeMapping.com will easly show you the difference between what is report by AAPD and what is reported by AA.com

A2 actually has more crime than Ypsi. Per Capita too. But when you have biased media and a police dept who needs to be pried, at times to reveal info, you'd never guess it. There is more going on in A2 than a bunch of liberals, english gardens and a borderline communist local government.

Too common a problem in Ypsilanti. Too many wannabe gangsters with a Glock in their sock and a chip on their shoulder. Parties are for dancing, meeting new people, and enjoy a fine evening. I'll stay away from the East side action and rest easy with people I know and trust.

You have to wonder if these were aspiring artists, trying to achieve true surrealism.

I just told my husband that i'm never going to a party in Ypsi again! Everytime there's a party someone either gets shot or stabbed! People can't even have fun anymore because of some idiot with a weapon!
