Ypsilanti police make arrest after seizing crack and handgun
One man was arrested after Ypsilanti police seized 19 grams of crack cocaine, a handgun, some marijuana and more than $2,400 cash during an investigation Friday night, a police incident log said.
Lazarus Venus Perry, 28, is being held at the Washtenaw County Jail on charges including two counts of possession with intent to deliver cocaine, a count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana and felony resisting and obstructing, police said.
The police department's Neighborhood Policing Team, Drug Enforcement Administration agents and other investigators conducted surveillance on Perry on South Prospect Street Friday.
He got into a car that was stopped by investigators at about 8:09 p.m. on North Grove Street, according to the log. Officers found Perry inside, and he fought with them as he was being taken into custody, the log said.
Police said he had five grams of crack cocaine on him, the log said.
Officers executed search warrants at a South Prospect Street apartment and on South Street, the log said. They recovered a handgun, the remainder of the drugs and cash.

@I_love_ann_arbor, So let me get this straight, drug laws should be ignored? because of the costs? What other laws are inconvenient and therefore to be ignored? There are lots of laws that law abiding gun owners follow even though they are inconsistent, inconvenient and idiotic. Do we like them? Of course not but we follow them and lobby to get the laws changed. Would that drug users and criminals do the same.

I_love_Ann_Arbor I don't know if you've ever seen 19 grams of crack but its quite a lot.Probbaly (at least) about two golf ball size bags. It's enough for someone to get killed over.If someone can obtain that amount I'll grantee that they nor the dealer are Boy scouts

Ok so let the drug charges drop but how about the felon with a handgun charge? Considering how so many of the commentors feel about armed citizens, surely this of all charges deserves some real time. Just sayin.

So, he had LESS than an ounce of crack. obviously not very much marijuana or else they would state that amount, and 2500 bucks. They didn't even catch him with ALL OF THE DRUGS ON HIS PERSON. SO taxpayers get to foot the $49,000+ to house him in jail... How about taking the money and putting back into the public pot. How about keeping a closer eye on the money that the City Council is dumping into silly projects...

I'm sure the drugs weren't his and it was all a misunderstanding. I'm sure he is an outstanding individual and is just a product of his environment.

WOW!! How many banned things can one alleged felon have at one time. Can I request that there be a follow up as to how the alleged felon got his hands on such items? Never mind the drugs, just the gun, surely he must have bought that legally....
