Ypsilanti police release composite sketch of purse-snatcher

By Amalie Nash

Ypsilanti police are hoping someone recognizes a composite sketch of a man who grabbed a purse from a woman downtown last month.

Police said the woman was walking in the area of North Washington Street and West Michigan Avenue at 3 a.m. on Aug. 21, heading to her car in city lot #5.

A man who was walking in the opposite direction grabbed her purse as they crossed paths and ran eastbound through the alley that runs behind the 100 block of West Michigan Avenue, then northbound on Huron Street, police said.

The woman was not injured. Police were unable to locate the thief.

He was described as a light-skinned black or bi-racial man, 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a goatee, wearing a light blue shirt, jeans and white baseball hat.

Anyone who recognizes him is asked to call Detective Jason Cyrbok at 734-482-9872.
