Ypsilanti Township man kidnaps two people he knows, deputies say

By Lee Higgins

An Ypsilanti Township man is accused of forcing two people he knows into a car at gunpoint and holding them captive for more than seven hours, Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies said.

Mahran Hesham Abed, 24, is charged with aggravated domestic assault and identity fraud, Washtenaw County jail records show. He is being held on $20,000 bail.

Deputies took a complaint about the incident on Congress Street at about 1:35 p.m. Tuesday and later arrested Abed in Van Buren Township.

Investigators say he dropped the victims off at different locations in Ypsilanti Township after the kidnapping, a sheriff's department incident summary said.

It's unclear what led to the incident.

Abed's criminal record includes convictions for larceny in a building, third-degree home invasion and unlawfully driving away an automobile.

Sorry no, I grew up in the land of the New York Times, Daily News, Post Herald, USA Today, Wall Street Journal etc etc etc. This is NOT just the difference between TV and Print News. Definitely a question of investigative journalism vs online blogging.

"That's the difference between journalism and blogging, no?" Could be more the difference of tv news versus "printed" news.

@dading, Yes I understand what's in or not in the article, I was hoping maybe someone would do some actual investigative reporting. How about talking to the victims or their friends? You know like the "reporters" you see on tv? That's the difference between journalism and blogging, no? jeez

So basically, This kidnapping suspect has a past/record for doing what he wants when things dont go his way. forcing his way into a home, home invasion, forcingpeople into his car kidnapping. these are the things he has been caught for. from my past experience for every time you get busted, there are 99 other crimes that they got away with. THROW THE KEY AWAY IF CONVICTED, on this guy before he kills his witnesses next crime. I believe that every suspect is due his day in court but in america you are truely Guilty til proven innocent.

I'm just happy to see this was reported on the regular front page and not Ypsilanti front page. Thanks for seeing the differnce.

@dading and DOT, I know I know, my reading comprehension is not that low. I just keep expecting and hoping for more in depth reporting than mere parroting of the police bulletins.

"No other details were released this morning by the sheriff's department" Perhaps a motive hadn't been established or released as of the writing of the article.
