There are special probation programs and courts for drug offenders, so she will have a good chance of being court ordered to treatment.

If the cop had done nothing and she died, who do you think would have gotten the blame? Her? Not in this society. It's always someone else's fault. He had to have her taken to the hospital if only to cover his own butt.

I don't know how can we help people who don't want help??... Why are we wasting our tax dollars to stop something that's so elusive. I say make it all legal and give it away for free to anyone over 21 that wants to use drugs this would save the country billions of dollars, thus making the streets safe to walk again.

We would also have a country full of walking zombies on Welfare with a disability called addiction. Marijuana OK. Legalize it and tax it. It's safer then alcohol and will not kill someone if they suddenly have to stop. Cocaine and Heroin destroys peoples lives and easy access to it would jeopardize National Security as far as I am concerned. Not that National Security isn't in jeopardy already. I have the feeling the US Government is sitting on top of a situation similar to Enron and is about to collapse anyway.

wow !!! when will we as people help those that cannot help themselves sitting in jail for a couple of days will not help this woman, she needs intervention along with some treatmen, I believe the taxpayers would like they're money 2 go towards that rather than an insitiution that does nothing for these people.

As I read the story, she's likely to be charged with purchasing and possessing a controlled substance, evidence tampering (eating the crack,) resisting arrest, and probably assault on a policeman. Depending on how "large" an amount it was, possession with intent to distribute could be in the mix as well. Jail for someone like this is just fine with me, for as long as possible, always presuming that's she's found guilty.

Nothing in the article said she went to jail. It says she went to the hospital. But, I am sure we will pay for that too. Oh, and I don't think we can force her to get treatment so that is not an option at this point. I am sure, once medically cleared, she will walk out of the hospital and some day ( or month or year) she will get picked up on a warrant issued after she fails to appear for a court date.
