Ypsilanti woman who said she was robbed in Peninsular Park made up the story, police say
A 17-year-old Ypsilanti woman who told police she was robbed earlier this month in Peninsular Park made up the whole story, the Ypsilanti Police Department said today.
Detectives are seeking charges against her of filing a false felony report, according to a news release.
The woman originally told police that she was walking through the park on her way home about 2:05 p.m. on April 3 when a man approached and hit her. She also said the man took cash from her wallet before getting into a white Saturn that was waiting on LeForge Road.
Detectives reinterviewed the woman today and she admitted she had given a false statement and that the incident never happened, the release said.

A 17-year old woman? Since when does 17 make you a woman. I know it doesn't matter, really, but just struck me. I call a 17 year old a teenager or a girl. Now that I got that off my chest, I would think that the officers have taken in mind she is being threatened to say she lied. There has to be more to this story then we know.

A Saturn as a getaway car? I knew something was rotten with this story from the get-go.

People recant all the time when they fear the (alleged) assailant. We don't know the details in this case, but recanting for safety's sake is equally, if not more, plausible than these other ideas. Please consider victim safety when you post.

Sure it might be plausible, but we'll have to go with what the "victim" said and what was actually reported over speculation won't we? Not to mention her story has been all too common of late and therefore just as , "if not more, plausible" than your speculation

Wow, what great use of police officers. I sure hope they charge her for filing a false police report. I'm sure my tax payer dollars could have been better spent this day. Let's recoup some of our money (tax payers money) that was wasted by this wonderful individual and stick her with some hefty fines.

I don't quite understand why someone would file a false police report like this. Did she think the police would just "refund" the amount she money she supposedly lost?

Also reported in Eastern Echo, the big FEAR story at the EMU dorm? The "victim" now refuses to cooperate at all! And we thought that story was suspicious....appears it was. <a href="http://www.easternecho.com/index.php/article/2011/04/victim_of_alleged_attack_at_phelps_not_cooperating_emu_police_chief_greg_odell_says" rel='nofollow'>http://www.easternecho.com/index.php/article/2011/04/victim_of_alleged_attack_at_phelps_not_cooperating_emu_police_chief_greg_odell_says</a> This is SO aggravating!

Sounds like an attention seeker to me. This is a hell of a time to be making false report and state-ments. (like our officers have time to investigate) un-truths. I certainly hope she is charged for filing a false felony report. Now I hear there are going to be even more cuts in Washtenaw Co. How can this be good for the citizens or law officals?
