Two schools in Ypsilanti will be shuttered to students this year, WEMU reported.

Chapel Elementary School and West Middle School won't be used this year by the newly consolidated Ypsilanti Community Schools district, according to the report. If enrollment picks up, the buildings could be used in the future, according to the report.

Kaiser Elementary is being leased to a Greater Faith Transitions that will use it for programming for at-risk youth.

There are other buildings that had been closed in both the former Willow Run and Ypsilanti school districts that are still not in use.

Shuttered? C'mon. Where is the news here? Using "...according to the report." to end two consecutive sentences seems like trying to stretch the already short article. Using a 5-year old, somewhat related, picture is a nice touch. How about a District school location map from 5-years ago and today? That might be interesting. Isn't there an Editor that reviews the stories and checks for spelling errors before the story goes out? Pretty shabby work AA.com...

Not surprised by this since the old WR middle/high school will be converted into the new YCS middle. Most of the other schools that were closed have been turned into charter schools or other school type related business. West Middle can never be anything but a school and it is. East Middle? Another charter since the YCS merger is going to be nothing but a disaster. I heard over 3,000 made a mass exodus out this area to better schools. Won't be surprised if anything does at the end of this year.

Any news if the school district is still going to provide security for those buildings or upkeep? I seem to remember an incident this summer with a man on shrooms that began in the nearly shuttered West elementary school building.

You remember correctly; it helped that residents were right across Mansfield Street and outdoors, so that the man was noticed and got needed help.

Chapelle hasn't been used for district programming (other than adult education/ESL instruction) for a number of years. Does anyone know if the Adult Ed program has been booted out of Chapelle, and, the Boys and Girls Club was also using part of the building, are they still there?

Chappel was still an elementary last I heard up until last year. A number of parents went nuts when they were thinking of closing it two years ago. There are other schools that these children can be farmed out to.
