23-year-old shot multiple times after fight with 2 men

By Paula Gardner

Ypsilanti police found a shooting victim lying in the street after they were called to the area of Harriet and South Washington streets at about 9:45 p.m. Monday.

Officers said the victim - a 23-year-old Ypsilanti man - suffered multiple gunshots, with wounds to his torso, arm and leg.

He was shot following a dispute with two men, according to an incident summary. He didn't know the gunman, police said.

A news release indicates the victim was hospitalized in serious condition.

Police are now searching for the gunman, who left the scene in a green minivan with at least two others.

The suspect is described as a short, heavy-set black man between 20-30 who was wearing a striped shirt.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Thomas Eberts at 734-482-9878 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAKUP (773-2587).

Harriet Street has ALWAYS been a violent and difficult area. What a shame!

These terribly vague suspect descriptions are truly frustrating. I hope the victim recovers and can tell the police more details on this. Then, I hope the suspect is caught, tried, convicted, and sent to a cage for decades. Decades. Gun crime must be completely intolerable for this community.

A gun was used in this crime. If it were a bludgeoning, I would be denouncing that. Guns are tools that can be misused, just like baseball bats or golf clubs. You are barking up the wrong tree, cinnabar7071.

Mark would it make you feel better had he used a baseball bat, or a golf club? Your statement would have met my approval had you left off gun to include all voilent crime.

To much shooting going on, changing his shirt, driving another auto and he is GONE. I hope the victim will recover and perhaps tell his story.

Good luck to the victim. If I happen to see anybody resembling the suspect, I'll be sure to turn around immediately and run in the other direction.
