Woman loses money and cell phone during robbery in bathroom

By Kyle Feldscher

A woman reported being jumped by three women who robbed her while in a bathroom of a business on North Huron Street in Ypsilanti, according to police.

Police responded at 1:30 a.m. Sunday to the business in the first block of North Huron Street, near the corner of Huron Street and Michigan Avenue. The woman told police she was in the bathroom when three women attacked her, according to investigators.

The suspects stole the woman’s money and her phone before fleeing, according to police.

Police did not release full descriptions of the three women and they said they would not release the name of the business.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call the Ypsilanti Police Department at 734-483-9510.

I'm with ahi. That bar can be a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to be there past 11pm. Where were the bouncer's and/or doormen when this happened? I thought the bar employed these type of people? Must have been outside taking a smoke break.....

"Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call the Ypsilanti Police Department" Okay, just a few problems with that; no description of the women, or the place of the business.

also, some people have a hard time keeping their mouths shut. I recall two women who were robbing banks disguised as men. Their disguises worked fine, until one of them, having relocated to Texas, began bragging about it, leading the the arrest and incarceration of both. They did hard time for a little bragging.

A2Ray - The reason I include this in stories is in case anyone who might have been a witness and would be able to provide a description can call police and do that.

The only business open at 1:30am in that block is Smarty Catz. It's a complete train wreck of a bar, but can be fun so long as you keep expectations low.

Terrific story here. I don't know if I am looking for pink elephants or the Unicorn!:) "Police did not release full descriptions of the three women and they said they would not release the name of the business." So let me see. I have NO idea WHO I am looking for, NOR do I know where the assault took place. this sounds like a job for Batman!

Okay, why would they not release the name of the business?

i'm not sure about other instances but with this particular instance it helps to protect the business from bad publicity. other customers may avoid the business thinking they are more likely to get robbed there when so far there is not evidence that the business knew anything about it. although i am curious about where it was considering the fact that all the businesses on north huron there are smaller. i'm surprised any of them have a bathroom big enough for that many people to be in at once and not look suspicious.

That's a great question, seldon. Most departments in the area will release the names of businesses that are broken into or where crimes occur. The YPD's department policy is that they don't release the names. I've never gotten an explanation beyond it's department policy.

Time to flush out the suspects and wipe out crime.
