Catalytic converters reported stolen from cars in Ypsilanti Township

Catalytic converters were stolen from two cars parked on International Drive in Ypsilanti Township on Wednesday afternoon, Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies said.

A caller reported a catalytic converter missing from a car parked in the 2900 block of International Drive at noon, a sheriff's office media summary said. Another caller reported one missing from a car in the 2800 block at 4:30 p.m.

The callers were not able to provide any suspect information. Deputies are investigating.

This has been going on for years. Are the scrap metal places that these are being sold to in the loop on this?? Where are people getting rid of them? I think it would be a little odd if someone were to come in week after week after week after week with catalytic converters to sell. I would think one shop owner would stop and go, "hmmmmm..... Wasn't he just in here with his grandmother's old catalytic converter??"

Not surprising... if anyone reads the weekly crime notes, they would see that these apartment complexes (the McKinley ones on both sides of Golfside between Washtenaw and Clark) seem to be frequent targets for catalytic converter theft. Too bad McKinley isn't interested in providing any additional security.
