Convicted sex offender from Ypsilanti faces new sexual assault charge

By Lee Higgins

A convicted sex offender from Ypsilanti is accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old man in June of 2010 in Orion Township, Oakland County sheriff's deputies said.

Dervin Mood, 75, is charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct and is expected to be arraigned Tuesday at 52-3 District Court in Rochester Hills, deputies said.

He is being held at the Oakland County jail after being arrested at 10:30 a.m. Monday at his home on Pleasant Drive by Oakland County sheriff's detectives, who were assisted by Ypsilanti police.

Investigators declined to disclose details of the sexual assault, saying the warrant was obtained Monday morning and Mood has not appeared in court.

Mood is on federal probation for receiving child pornography and is awaiting trial in Washtenaw County on charges that he sexually assaulted a boy multiple times over a 10-year period at an Ypsilanti home.

He was arrested in that case last February and continues to await a hearing in federal court in Detroit to determine whether he violated probation, court records show.

I think these kind of people should be given a choice of a castration procedure like in Germany. The repeat rate of the offenders the get the procedure is very low and they can live normal and productive lives.

Article states Pleasant Drive... right next to the park and swimming pool and also adjacent to the school. Legally if he had previous similar convictions, why was he living here, without the Law Enforcement system enforcing the sex offender laws??

Careful guys: If you dare raise a legitimate inquiry here, especially if it draws attention to an obvious flaw in the article, it's likely to illicit the ire of certain people who'll then use their un-checked power to sensor your observations in an attempt to hide their reporting shortcomings from others.

Questions you would think a reporter would be curious enough to ask about. Guess not...
