Deputies: Man accused in stabbing incident in critical condition after chase, beating
A large party in Ypsilanti Township turned violent Sunday night when one man cut another with a knife and then was severely beaten after he tried to run away and a group of people chased and caught him.
The 25-year-old Ypsilanti Township man was in critical condition at an area hospital, Washtenaw County sheriff's officials said.
Deputies said two men were fighting outside a large party in the 1500 block of Wismer Street in Ypsilanti Township, when the 25-year-old man pulled out a knife and cut a 28-year-old Ypsilanti Township man before attempting to flee the area on foot.
A group of people then chased the 25-year-old and caught him, beating him until he was unconscious and causing significant injury, deputies said.
Sheriff’s deputies responded at 3:30 a.m. Sunday and discovered the two injured men. They were both transported to a local hospital, where they were treated for their injuries.
The 28-year-old man was released from the hospital and then taken into custody for his role in the fight, deputies said. He’s lodged in the Washtenaw County Jail awaiting arraignment.
The 25-year-old man remains in critical condition due to head trauma. Police are not saying to which hospital he was admitted.
The identities of the people who beat the 25-year-old man are not known, sheriff’s officials said Tuesday.
Anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to call the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office anonymous tip line at 734-973-7711 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800 SPEAK UP (773-2587).

Their must be more to the story than is being told. The man that gets cut is locked up? In the other story today the man that got cut got awarded restitution of $8000 ?

Yes, indeed. Perhaps he shouldn't have been locked up?

It seems that "party" in Washtenaw County now means "crowd beats guy." Did I miss a meeting?

Well come on, Lisa, don't leave us in suspense. If you know more, spit it out already. You know this crappy news blog is never going to get to the bottom of this.

This was just a few blocks away from the loudmouth rooster that was ran out of town. Let's see - 3:30 a.m. on a Sunday morning, partying in the street, and we are worried about a loud chicken. The rooster story got more press coverage than a couple of street brawlers, and the poor bird probably didn't make nearly as much noise. Maybe the neighbors should have called to complain about the party noise earlier and WCSD would have been there, subsequently preventing the fight?

The 28-year-old is in jail for his part in the fight, 'cuz you don't usually get arrested for being the victim. The 25-year-old who used a knife (which he just happened to have in his hand at a party) is critical in the hospital. Doesn't take a genius to figure out that both took some action and subsequently have responsibility for their individual outcomes. Party on in Y-town!

You don't "just happen" to have a knife in your hand, for one, and for two, there's always "the rest of the story". I'd stick to that logic before making assumptions on "the 28 year old's role". Genius.

A man is in the hospital with his life on the line and you guys think you have a right to an opinion based on some story a reporter decided to put in the paper? Have some respect! The man's whereabouts and names are not confirmed because the incident is still under investigation. This article is based on statements not facts!

Ok Lisa, if you know most people involved in this AND you were there, that makes you a witness so go talk to the police, unless you are one of those people who doesn't talk to police. And if you weren't there, then whatever you heard is second-hand and no more valid than anything in this article.

I know most involved in this and it should not be taken lightly. It's sad when this happens to friends. Paper does not always get truth

Actually, yes, I do think I have a right to an opinion. You don't have to agree with it.

This is why you don't escalate a fight by pulling out a knife. Could have just been fisticuffs before that happened.

Moral to the story. Never pull a knife when you can't run fast enough to evade your pursuers. Also never, never, show up to a gunfight with a knife. Best idea is go to a party, enjoy the music, dance and be a happy and responsible guest.

Related to this story or not, it's still solid advice. That, and just avoid Ypsi altogether.
