Eastern Michigan University re-creates viral video Gangnam Style

By Katrease Stafford

The Gangnam Style phenomenon has struck again.

Eastern Michigan University has released its own version to the viral video that recently hit the 1.1 billion mark on YouTube.

Ted Coutilish, associate vice president for university marketing and communications, said several hundred students, staff and faculty members participated in the video, which was filmed during the span of the fall semester.

The video captures the entire marching band, dance team and even a campus officer dancing to the song.

"Like everyone else, we’re monitoring the Gangnam Style video and noticing that those numbers kept increasing and we saw other universities were doing videos, too," Coutilish said. "We thought we could put our own stamp on it and have fun... We just wanted to be a part of phenomenon."

Well done EMU cutting the song down to a minute 15. Unlike many other Gangname videos, this one was actually not a pain to watch because it didn't go on forever. Loved the officers and the swimmer coming out of the water.

Heeeeeeeey, sexy Eagles! This is a hoot. Briskly edited, with lots of surprising touches. I like the police officer, the swimmer, the gymnasts and the folks in the lab.

I've been a fan of K-pop for a dozen years but this Gangnam Style nonsense MUST STOP.

And who could forget the Cupid Shuffle, otherwise known as the dance every morbidly overweight woman in America over 30 gleefully stampedes to the dance floor to join before the first measure is even complete.

But, back to the topic at hand, the video is wonderful. And hilarious. So much teamwork went into this, and the school spirit and talent it illustrates is terrific.

By Canada, Macabre, are you referring to The Northwest Territories? Toronto? Halifax? Vancouver? You paint with a broad brush! Fortunately, most Canadians are not as parochial as many Americans. (Not to point a finger.)

I'm thinking Macabre was just making a joke. ... and talk about painting with a broad brush!

At this rate, Canada will release its Gangnam Style video in a few months. They're still working on big hair, Beanie Babies and the Macarena.
