Kitchen fire causes $80,000 in damage to Ypsilanti Township home
Lt. Harr's name has been corrected in this story.
A kitchen fire caused $80,000 in damage to an Ypsilanti Township home Wednesday night and displaced a family of four, according to fire officials.
Lt. Keith Harr said Thursday firefighters were dispatched at 7:11 p.m. Wednesday to the 7000 block of Deer Track Drive. When they arrived, fire crews found heavy smoke coming from the kitchen and flames were visible, Harr said.
The fire destroyed most of the kitchen but was confined to the one room, Harr said. The blaze caused $60,000 in damage to the property and damaged $20,000 in contents.
“It’s a good reminder for people to keep watch on their pots and pans,” he said.
There were four people in the home at the time and they had a place to go so the American Red Cross was not called in, Harr said.
He said the flames were down within 17 minutes of the firefighters’ arrival on scene. The scene was cleared at 8:59 p.m.
There were no injuries and there were no pets at the home. Ypsilanti Township firefighters handled the blaze without calling in mutual aid.

Seems like there is a rash of fires recently... Wonder if this is part of some trend? I am grateful the people are safe.
