Kitchen fire displaces 1 in Ypsilanti
A Friday night kitchen fire displaced one Ypsilanti resident.
At 10:38 p.m., firefighters received a call of multiple flames and smoke showing on the second floor of a two-story multi-residence home at 1 N. Summit St., Capt. Dan Cain said.
Off-duty firefighters were called in to assist, and the fire was under control in about 20 minutes. Firefighters remained on scene for about an hour and a half.
The fire — believed to have started on the stove — destroyed the kitchen. The rest of the second floor suffered smoke and heat damage, Cain said. The fire caused about $20,000 in damage.
The Red Cross assisted the woman who was displaced by the fire, and residents in the lower level were allowed to return to their home.
