A man wanted since July after Ypsilanti police said he shot a man in the face and robbed him was arrested early Tuesday in the basement of a Superior Township home. He remains jailed on a $100,000 cash or surety bond.

Kennyon Jackson, 19, of Ypsilanti, was arraigned Tuesday afternoon at the Washtenaw County Jail on charges of assault with intent to murder, armed robbery, possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony, carrying a weapon with unlawful intent, discharging a firearm in a building and possessing a firearm while being a felon.

Police said Jackson and 20-year-old Tory Warren of Ypsilanti met at 11:50 p.m. July 11 in an apartment building hallway in the 200 block of South Grove with a man they know. They were inquiring about some high-end sunglasses, police said. Without warning, investigators said, Jackson pulled a gun and fired at least two shots at close range. The 23-year-old victim, who is from Ypsilanti, suffered a gunshot wound to the mouth and was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where a bullet was removed from his tongue.

Warren turned himself in two weeks after the shooting, but police said Jackson was at large for months.

About 4 a.m. Tuesday, Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies and Ypsilanti police received information that a man wanted by police was at a home in the 9000 block of MacArthur Boulevard in Superior Township, deputies said. Officers arrived at a party and found Jackson hiding in the basement.

Jackson is scheduled to return to court Nov. 8 for a preliminary hearing. Warren is scheduled to go to trial Dec. 5 on charges of assault with intent to murder, armed robbery and possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony.
