Hummer window broken, seats set on fire in Ypsilanti parking lot

By Heather Lockwood

Someone broke a window in an Ann Arbor man's 2006 Hummer and set the front seats on fire in a parking lot in Ypsilanti Monday night, police said.

Ypsilanti police Sgt. Kevin Dorsey said the 42-year-old man was inside a business about 7:30 p.m. Monday in the 300 block of East Michigan Avenue, when someone came in and said a vehicle was on fire in the parking lot. The victim went outside and saw that it was his, Dorsey said, and put the fire out with a fire extinguisher.

Dorsey said the victim called 911 and fire officials arrived to make sure the fire was out.

No injuries were reported. It's not clear how the fire was started, Dorsey said.

Police have no suspect description at this time and no further details were immediately available.

Something is missing in this story? Can someone go back and interview the owner and repost an update??? What parking lot????

Sounds like a "hate crime" committed by a global warming advocate!

Very weird....when I first read the story, I missed the part of the window being broken into.

Something very fishy here. I know Ypsi has it's share ofcrime, just like any city, but here are my questions- 1) Why would the Hummer be unlocked? I owned an H2 and currently have an H3, and all of us Hummer owners lock them out of instinct! The remote keypad does wonders! 2) Why would someone try to light a fire in the freezing cold to some guys Hummer? The front seats at that? 3) Did this guy use a cigarette lighter? or other method? 4) Does the owner of HUmmer owe any money on the truck? Any Arrears in payments? Just asking.
