The incident occurred at 3 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of College Place and Washtenaw Avenue, according to police. The man said he was walking back from a party when he was suddenly hit from behind.

The man fell to the ground and a group of people began kicking and punching him, according to police. The man estimated three to five people were assaulting him.

The incident was not reported to police until 12:35 p.m. Monday, according to investigators.

There was no suspect description available Tuesday morning. Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to call the Ypsilanti police at 734-483-9510.

That area is crime central. Students mixed with government dependent people. I have frequently seen people selling drugs.

Somebody must have seen something. Can the victim give any information that would help identify the assailants? Ages? Race? Gender? Clothing?? Have any witnesses come forward?

We're not allowed to discuss race nor gender on the website. Ages and clothing is also frowned upon. And they're not assailants, they're alleged assailants.

Without training most people in this situation would reflexively go into a fetal position to protect their core and their head. Not a good position from which to try and ID your attackers to be sure. Stay aware people so you don't find yourselves in similar straights. Good luck out there.

Just to clarify, the reason this person did not report it until later is due to sustained injuries in the ER.

But I thought if you went to the ER with injuries from a crime, it was reported to the authorities that same day. I could be wrong, but that's what I thought.
