Man shot in stomach after argument at party

By Julie Baker

An Ypsilanti Township man is in stable condition after being shot in the stomach early Sunday while he was at a party in Ypsilanti, police said in a news release.

Police were dispatched around 1:50 a.m. Sunday to the 800 block of Green Road in Ypsilanti to the report of shots fired with potential victim. When they arrived, officers were told that the victim, a 21-year-old Ypsilanti Township man, had been transported to the hospital by friends.

During their investigation, officers learned that a party had taken place in one of the apartments where two people got into a verbal argument. The argument escalated to a point where the suspect pulled a black revolver and fired a shot through the residence, which struck the victim in the stomach. Police said the victim and the suspect did not know each other.

The suspect fled before officers arrived. The suspect is described as a black man in his early 20s with a light complexion, about 6'2", wearing blue jeans and a blue hooded sweatshirt.

The investigation continues, and anyone with additional information is urged to call Det. Sgt. Thomas Eberts at 734-482-9878 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAKUP.

"pulled a black revolver..." Thank goodness he didn't pull a revolver of another color. Black goes well with everything.

Never even go near that area at night and if you live there, try and move. Bullets travel easily thru drywall.

Never attended an apartment party. I'll almost bet somebody at the party knows who the shooter is. (maybe even the victim now).

If ypsi changed, what would aa.com write about? The news in aa is rather boring, so it's sometimes entertaining to read about the ypsi "events".

If more law abiding citizens exercised their 2nd amendment rights, these thugs may think twice about who they have bad intentions against. I know this, I have a ccw. I hope I never have to use my firearm, but I would , without blinking an eye if a thug like this thought he was going to harm my family, or myself.

I hope you get the CCW charge cleared up!

@oldtimer3: You never no for certain but State Police statistics (issued monthly since 2002) indicate that the gun crime rate for CPL licensees is WAY below that of yer average citizen (population). So just going with those odds (reflected across the country), you can safely guess this shooter is not licensed.

i think the people shooting guns into crowds usually don't have the option to exercise their 2nd amendment rights- if your a felon, no CCW from them

How do you know the shooter didn't have a ccw? Hard to believe no one at the party knew the shooter.

Is it heavy carrying around all those straw men? I think you're too paranoid and itchy to be handling a firearm, but no one has said you don't have your right to be a genius who boasts off your CW at your party. Go for it!

Loopy. You obviously misunderstood what I said. Overall, more people should exercise their RIGHT to carry. Party or not, I will defend myself. I may not shoot back through the door, but I'm just saying, if ANY situation arose that implicated any threat to a human life, lethal force is an option. Worse case scenario - I would rather be judged by 12, than carried by 6. If these hoodlums knew that they could come across a law abiding citizen who may be carrying, they may reconsider their intentions. On a final note, regardless of this particular incident. Owning and bearing arms is not a privilege. It is my RIGHT. Whether you or anyone else likes it or not.

Right, tough guy, because firing a handgun into a crowd at a party is such a good idea. That's how the victim got hit in the first place.
