Man found dead in Ypsilanti Township with gunshot wound

By Lee Higgins

A man was found dead late Thursday in an industrial area in eastern Ypsilanti Township with at least one gunshot wound, Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies said.

An autopsy is underway on the man, who has not yet been identified, officials at the Washtenaw County Medical Examiner's Office said at 3 p.m. today.

Someone found the body in the snow at 11:30 p.m. Thursday, sheriff's department spokesman Derrick Jackson said. He did not know where the body was found or how long it had been there, he said.

The death is under investigation. Sheriff Jerry Clayton could not be reached for comment this afternoon.

Anyone with information can call the Sheriff's Department tip line at (734) 973-7711.

Has he been identified yet? Why is AA news not following up on this man's death?

This is certainly a tragedy for the victim and his loved ones. Lets hope the investigators bust the case soon. Re: " Too many guns in the hands of people that are not healthy enough to have them." -- certainly that's true, RJA. But would you agree that "people not healthy enough" to have guns are just people who have taken violence as their "standard method" - regardless of what weapons are available to them? My point is only that we might be better off to focus on the violence prone among us: they drive cars, they wield knives, forks and fists, etc. - and are dangerous because of their mental state and lack of social skills, not because they have a given type of weapon. Ypsi area high crime rate: lets be grateful that at least the many assaults, homicides and robberies are occurring in a limited area. I think it's careless to generalize about an "area" in which many peaceful, law-abiding people live because the criminals are still in the minority and the innocent don't deserve to be "included" as " that type."

The poor victim has 2 young children. How he got that far from his home we don't yet know. Seems there are several details missing.

Why does A2.com persist in featuring the same stories day after day, with no updates? This week the article about Mr. Riney and this article have run as headlines for more that one day each, with no changes or up dates. Is there really so little to report on that we have to see the same old stuff day after day. I find it annoying because I look to see if there is additional information available. But no, same old stuff.....Just have less headlines if you can't find anything new to report on. Thanks.

The body was found by the north east corner for the YCUA wasterwater treatment plant on McGregor just south of Tyler Road. He was found by the road.

If you live in Ypsilanti Township then this man's body was found within less than 5 miles from you. That's "close enough" for me. But, really, where within 5 miles of your home would you prefer to have a body discovered? What location would make you feel better? Obviously there's a lot about this story that is known by law enforcement that wasn't reported. Either law enforcement felt it was best to not release this information at this time or our reporter didn't put in much effort. Either way you're going to have to wait to find out no matter how much you feel you are entiltled to the information, or how much you want to point the finger at "them"/"those people", or even how many inches you are from your gun.

updated? still not much information. what was updated? isn't there a standard to add a footnote or some type of 'tick' mark to acknowledge what was changed? in drafting, there is a revision block that gives a short description of what was added/changed. seems like it would be a jounalisim standard or something.

Well there is I believe a Industrial Park that still has business in it near I-94 and Ecorse. But If You are talking far east by Willow Run and the closed GM plants that could even be Wayne Counties own Van Buren Twp. Not to much info here. At least the 100 Block of Fried Crack Rock Road would have been nice.

Well, it does kind of matter where the body was found and where the incident ocurred. This is a dead human here, not some old deer carcass. So, yeah, I would say it makes a difference.

How close would you guess you live to the place this man was found? 1 Mile? 5 Miles? Is there really much difference? How far do you think you are from an illegal gun? A repeat offender or parole absconder with a gun? How far from a drug deal, right now? How far from a cop?

yoopertrooper, let it be known i am merely inches away from a legal firearm. what does it matter? did the shooting happen in another county, city, township and then get brought to eastern yt? it do make a differenct to me. if not to you, such is your own.

How about we all think about this just for a second. East side of Washtenaw County, near an industrial park, a man found dead with a single gun shot wound. This could not be the wonderful up and coming community known as West Willow, where there has been a rise in violent crime that includes multiple gun fights. No, it couldn't be, I doubt it, but I am just saying it is a possibility or more so reality.

This finding must be so hard on the family, let the investigation go on. Thanks WCPD! Too many guns in the hands of people that are not healthy enough to have them. (and again, to few Police Officers) Many that can't get a gun leagally, will steal them.

So the sheriff's spokeman did not know where the body was found, even though (per the headline) the story has been updated?? No disrespect to the victim or his family, but there is not much "news" to this story thus far. Is aa.com being a little more careful with facts than they were with the story on the stabbing at Ypsi high?

could we narrow this eastern yt industrial area down please?

I know, right? Like we have time to sit here and look up industrial areas on the east side of Ypsi township. It would be nice to know where this incident happened and if we should we worried about a gunman on the loose in our neighborhood.
