"In our glorious fight for civil rights, we must guard against being fooled by false slogans, such as 'right to work.' It is a law to rob us of our civil rights and job rights. Its purpose is to destroy labor unions and the freedom of collective bargaining by which unions have improved wages and working conditions of everyone…Wherever these laws have been passed, wages are lower, job opportunities are fewer and there are no civil rights. We do not intend to let them do this to us. We demand this fraud be stopped. Our weapon is our vote." —Martin Luther King, speaking about right-to-work laws in 1961

Since it appears someone from the Mackinac Center for Public Policy is going to be there I hope the brewery plans on disinfecting the place once they leave.

Katrease, you forgot to include the "when" of the "who, what, where, when why." I went to the Michigan Radio link and the event is indeed today, January 15th. http://www.publicbroadcasting.net/michigan/events.eventsmain?action=showEvent&eventID=1320512

What's to discuss? It's already law. Too late. Waste of time.

Never give up! This is not the first time amoral legislators have sold out this state to deep-pocketed special interests. The fight is still in the works. I love Michigan and I believe it is worth fighting for. That fight is NOT a waste of time. Lying down and letting one's self get steamrolled by underhanded politicians is a defeatist attitude. We will continue to fight until we prevail. Lame duck lawmakers cutting shady deals and passing laws hurried through with no discussion are the very definition of evil. Let the light of day show the taint of their actions and let good people undo their evil actions! The fight is still on!

There is no mention as to what day this is. Is it today, 1/15/13? If so, it would have been nice to find out about these things a few days in advance so one could make plans to attend.

I plan to be there with some friends. It should prove to be an interesting discussion with those who supported the Governor.

The owners of this bar donated thousands to Rick Snyder's campaign, as did democrat Gretchen Driskell, and ex-member of Congress Joe Schwarz, a good man, helped with the con game of convincing voters Snyder was a 'moderate'. And The Mackinac Center for Public Policy are funded by the right wing creeps the Koch Brothers. And the Center for Automotive Research is funded by large corporations and the automobile industry. So Driskell is the 'libera'l here? Pathetic.

And, Superior, just in case you don't know what I'm talking about when I mentioned 'coup', here is some background info... http://richardbrenneman.wordpress.com/2010/01/11/smedley-butler-and-the-fdr-coup/ http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/july2007/240707fascistcoup.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_Plot But keep on cheering those who are trying to destroy the middle class in the name of power and profit. I'm sure they appreciate it.

Oh and snapshot, you forgot to mention the huge increases in executive pay that were given until it was exposed by members of the media. BTW, Hostess hasn't gone under yet. http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/hostess.asp Neither do you bother to look at how the executives of Hostess plundered the employees benefits fund to their own advantage and subsequently blamed the demise of the company on the union and the strike. http://www.politicususa.com/betrayal-remedy-hostess-pensions-fund-bankruptcy.html But you are free to believe any fairytale of your choosing. Just don't expect everyone else to swallow the same manure as you. But, yeah, it's the workers fault, not the mismanagement by executives of the company acting in their own self-interest. :)

superior, your assumption that someone has a hero named Soros is ridiculous. And just because someone employs people doesn't make them a 'good person' or a 'good citizen'. How many people were employed by the businessmen who schemed to take over the country and turn it into a facist state until the plan was outed by retired Major General Smedley Butler, whom they approached as a possible military leader of the coup. Your logic is completely skewed. BTW, if you support this misnomer called 'right to work' from it's inception, then perhaps you should look up it's history. It was started by an anti-semitic, anti-union racist named Vance Muse. I have to wonder how far from the tree the apple falls. It's really nice to discuss issues with people who don't even know what the issue is or from whence it comes. Anyways, this whole thing sounds like a farce, if they wish to have a serious discussion and then only give hours notice. I'd have liked to have attended myself, but it is my belief that this was never intended to be a serious discussion since Katrease "just received notice about the event today." But whatever reason it was done in such a fashion has probably more to do with deception and spin than any honest desire to have a real discussion, IMO.

If we're name calling.....how about uncompromising Baker's union of 5,400 bullies that put 18,000 other Hostess employees out of work with their strike? Koch Brothers produce opportunity while unions reduce opportunity.

"by the right wing creeps the Koch Brothers" So they are more creepy than your hero, George Soros? I think not. And by the way, Koch Brothers employ 60,000 people. Yes, sixty-thousand people. Just terrible citizens, aren't they.

I know many Republicans who were bamboozled by Snyder during his campaign as well. Give someone the benefit of the doubt that he will be good for his word and it isn't egg on their face, it's egg on the liar's face. I hold Snyder alone responsible. I'm grateful to have Gretchen Driskell as my Representative.
