By Katrease Stafford

A fire caused about $100,000 in damage to an automotive repair facility Thursday night in Ypsilanti Township.

Ypsilanti Township Fire Captain Dave Crescio said someone called 911 about 10:20 p.m. after noticing smoke coming from the roof line of the building in the 1400 block of Ecorse Road. Firefighters were on the scene for three hours.

Although the building was not completely destroyed, firefighters estimated the cost of damage to the building at $80,000, and $15,000 worth of content was lost.

There were no reported injuries.

The Ypsilanti Township Fire Department battled the blaze, along with city of Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor firefighters.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

"The cause is still under investigation," Crescio said. "The fire marshal is over there right now."

Yes it is, Hadi Auto. (I think thats how it is spelled). Heard about the fire on our police scanner, and drove by to check it out. Sat in the car wash parking lot next door for about an hour, never once saw a flame, and never once saw any water sprayed. We watched the firemen break the door down, and open the bay doors, Black smoke poured out. But once again never seen any water or flames. Ypsi Township, Ypsi City, Pittsfield Twp, and A2 FD came out. Ypsi City started to deploy their ladder truck. but never did. The owners showed up, all 12+ of them, trying to enter the building and were repeatedly yelled at by the Fire Marshall to stay back. No excitement here, I dont see the damage being as bad as estimated. However, there were many cars in the shop.

I see it's south-southeast of a body shop I used the services of years ago. Whatever this auto repair shop does, I hope they have computer backups of their customers' data. And I wish them the best outcome of this tragedy, like I do the one that had sat off Broadway and Maiden Lane. Such as relocating to an unused building like Ziebart's did a few years ago, after another business left that location.
