Plea negotiations continue for man accused of running over girlfriend with car

A plea deal could be in the works for the 21-year-old Ypsilanti Township man accused of beating and stabbing his girlfriend, as well as running her over with a car.
Judge Donald Shelton adjourned Michael Glenn's final pretrial hearing Tuesday in the Washtenaw County Trial Court after two long bench conferences with attorneys.
"Plea negotiations are still underway," Shelton said before adjourning the case until June 4.
Glenn briefly appeared in the courtroom, where he smiled and waved at family and friends seated in the gallery while being led to and from the lectern.
He is accused of beating a woman last fall after she tried to break up with him while the two were in a vehicle parked in front of his house in the 2300 block of McKinley Road in Ypsilanti Township.
Police said Glenn got in the woman’s car and punched her in the face multiple times when she told him she wanted to break up with him. She was stabbed multiple times with an unknown object and strangled until she blacked out before Glenn took her out of the car and ran her over with the vehicle, according to police.
Investigators said Glenn tried to put the woman in the trunk of the car before she convinced him she wouldn’t leave him. When Glenn walked away from the area, the woman fled to a neighbor’s home and called police. Glenn allegedly stole the woman’s car and fled the area before deputies could arrive on scene.
Glenn faces two counts each of assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do bodily harm less than murder and assault with a dangerous weapon. He faces a single charge each of carjacking, motor vehicle theft, unlawful imprisonment and domestic violence.
He was arrested in Detroit last January and continues to be held in the Washtenaw County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

The only plea I can think would work is "guilty".

Whole Dude - Whole Hope: I think that there is hope for this young man who smiled and waved to acknowledge his family and friends. Man has always hope if he has the ability to receive the love of other people. I would state that man has 'Whole Hope' if he receives the 'Unconditional Love' of God, the Creator. If we acknowledge that Unconditional Love, it becomes easy to express the feelings of love for another person. If rejection arouses the sentiments of anger and frustration, acceptance generates the feelings of peace and harmony. A man who has peace will not react with violence when exposed to the problem of rejection. It would be risky to initiate love relationships with other people before finding the peace and harmony generated by acceptance of God's love.

In response to Bob: "Glenn faces two counts each of assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do bodily harm less than murder and assault with a dangerous weapon. He faces a single charge each of carjacking, motor vehicle theft, unlawful imprisonment and domestic violence." One may hope that he "gets his life straightened out," but this sounds, in the words of Oscar Wilde, like the triumph of hope over experience.

No plea deals on this case, please. If the evidence supports the charges, the prosecutor should take it all the way down the field.

So sad. Michael was a much liked student at West Middle School years ago; this is just hard to believe. Hope the young lady is OK and Michael somehow gets his life straightened out.

Plea negotiations? He tried killing a young woman, and if she hadn't tricked him, I have no question he would have. The only negotiations being discussed should be whether he spends the rest of his life in the U.P. or down here closer to his family. I heard the police calls that night on my scanner, and I could tell the police were shaken from how bad the woman looked. The voices I heard that night were full of concern for the victims survival.

Unfortunately trials cost money and the courts' budgets are being cut just like all other budgets. I'm sure he won't get a very generous deal. I'm actually not sure, I just hope.

From the police account, Mr. Glenn would not seem to have a lot of leverage, plea bargain-wise. Is the victim on tap to testify?
