Police: Ann Arbor man arrested for stealing cigarettes from Ypsilanti party store
A 39-year-old Ann Arbor man was arrested on suspicion of breaking into a party store in the 500 block of West Cross Street early Wednesday morning and stealing cartons of cigarettes, Ypsilanti police said.
“We believe it was broken out with a two by four,” said Ypsilanti police Sgt. Brent Yuchasz.
Twelve hours later, police had the suspect in custody.
“The officers worked the case throughout the day," Yuchasz said. "They were able to identify him through the video surveillance."
The man was arrested around 5 p.m. as he walked down an Ypsilanti street near the party store by patrol officers who recognized him from the video, police said.
The Ann Arbor man is currently being held at the Washtenaw County Jail, where he is expected to be arraigned Friday on breaking and entering charges.

Hey, Innocent til proven guilty! How'd we know for sure they "got their man"? They haven't even had him arraigned yet, have they?

Reporting accuracy on this site is out-of-control bad. Obviously, it was an Ypsilanti man who came to Ann Arbor and committed a robbery. The opposite simply isn't possible. Please get your facts straight!

Well, at least a gun was not used and it was more than one pack. There is good in everything almost.

I'm still on board with the wall. I think we'll net out to the good here on the West side. I would like to see a moat as well, but one step at a time, I guess. Can the DDA issue a grant for this?

One of the fringe benefits of creating an atmosphere that retains officers is illustrated again. They become very familiar with the local criminal element. This is one of the reasons YPD has such a high rate of cases solved and stolen property recovered. Nice work YPD.

Maybe the Democrats' idea of doubling-tripling-quadrupling the cost of cigarettes made the thief think he was doing a bank heist. Or maybe he just read where the mafia got all their members started by hijacking truckloads of cigarettes and wanted to become a really successful thief. Why don't we have a network tobacco dispensary clinics or just make the marijuana "clinics" the place where those in need can get this criminalized tobacco product? Smoking tobacco for 20 years isn't any more toxic than smoking marijuana for 20 years. After all, servicing the needs of addicts is accepted practice now and it's certainly easier than treating addictions. If there was a need to treat addictions, there'd be addiction treatment programs as numerous as marijuana clinics and cigarette sellers. Right?

Just to be fair: Wow! Why don't they build a wall around Ypsilanti and keep all of the Ann Arbor Riff-Raff out???!!!??? Just to illustrate that there are bad elements no matter where you live/work/read about....
