Police are investigating a robbery that occurred this morning at a PNC Bank in Ypsilanti Township, Washtenaw County Sheriff's Spokesman Derrick Jackson confirmed.

According to Jackson, two men entered the bank at 3175 West Clark Road shortly after 11 a.m. and jumped over a counter and glass partition separating tellers from the bank lobby.

The men grabbed cash and fled south after the robbery, but Jackson was not sure whether they were in car or on foot. Employees at the bank were verifying this afternoon how much money was taken, he said.

Jackson said the men did not mention a weapon and employees did not see one during the robbery. There were customers in the lobby when the incident occurred, but no one was injured, he said. Deputies were reviewing surveillance video and expected to release a photo soon.

The suspects were described as two black males wearing hooded sweatshirts and ski masks. Anyone in the area this morning who may have seen the men is asked to call the sheriff's office tip line at 734-973-7711.

ThaKillaBee-- What color is the sky in your world?? A bankrobbery is a crime scene. There are several reasons to limit vehicle and foot traffic into the crime scene...dog track, DNA evidence, fingerprints...just to name a few. According to you maybe the bank sould keep doing business after the crime... REALLY... THINK ABOUT IT

Thought about it. Six patrol cars still seems like overkill. The sky is blue.

Once again, same description of the criminals as most of the crime committed in the area.

No sight of a weapon yet they give all the cash... Bank employees need to man up.

Are you serious? That's what insurance is for. There is NO way if I was in that position I would try and fight, I have a life and a family, and no amount of money would be worth risking that.

Funny, this article doesn't seem to pop up in the Crime section. Ahhh, maybe it pops up in the A2dotcom's new "Victimless" Crime section...

I wonder what they're doing when they get 6 patrol cars and block the entrances? What are they accomplishing? The crime has been committed already. It just looks like they want to say "See? We're here. We have this under control. So knock it off!" Meanwhile, the robbers will never be caught.

I don't know, it seems like I never hear about any robbers being apprehended. Remember the two bank robberies last fall in Ann Arbor? Were those guys ever caught? I don't remember hearing anything.

Bank robbery is actually one of the most solvable (and most solved) crimes committed today. Banks expect to get robbed, so they're prepared with video surveillance, dye packs, etc. Solving a bank robbery isn't a time-sensitive crime until someone actually gets hurt, and if the robbers get away with it this time, they'll do it again and again until they get caught. When that happens, the authorities will be there waiting with five or six other charges at 7-to-15, along with weapons charges when appropriate. Why run after these guys trying to catch them when they'll eventually catch themselves?

If the police don't block the entrance to the parking lot, some ignorant customers will attempt to enter the branch and try to conduct a transaction.

I suspect that's why someone else saw Pittsfield at the scene blocking the entrances while the Sheriff's were out searching for suspects. Preserve the scene for any evidence while you actively pursue the criminal. Come on, any CSI junky knows that. Where is Horatio when you need him?

We drove past there shortly after it happened. Mainly Pittsfield police, and one WCSD. Looked rather scary. one officer had an assault rifle in hand.

Bobby you're probably right, if you'd care to let me know who you see? Thank you Baker for explaining.

Having had some of my comments removed for not commenting on an article but commenting on comments I am wondering why this gun identification discussion is still here.

"An assault rifle is a selective fire rifle that uses an intermediate cartridge and a detachable magazine" from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assault_rifle Ricebrnr is correct. There it is common misconception by people not familiar with firearms to call all semi-automatic rifles assault rifles (which have to be capable of full-automatic fire) specially if they cosmetically look the same. From a distance a semi-auto AR-15 looks the same as a full-auto M-16. The only external difference is the selector switch has 3 positions labeled for it ( safe, semi and full (burst)). The real differences are all internal.

I never said it was an automatic. Seems like someone needs an eye exam.

Ricebrnr

Fri, Jun 24, 2011 : 7:50 p.m.

Wow you could tell it was full auto capable as you drove past? Kudos to your optician sir!

yes, i would look there. however, reading the story, "...an AnnArbor.com reporter is headed to the scene." (i.e. not there yet) and if the reporter was there already "...A person who answered the phone..." why call? simply stop in for a coney and a chat. ,
