Police: Mom could face charges after leaving toddler in car

By Cindy Heflin

A mother could face charges after she left her 3-year-old child alone in a vehicle in Ypsilanti on Tuesday, police said.

Someone in the area called Ypsilanti police about 6:30 p.m. to report a toddler had been left alone in a vehicle in the 300 block of Michigan Avenue, police said in a media summary. Police found a 3-year-old girl in the vehicle sweating profusely.

The mother was inside a business nearby. She was uncooperative, police said. They placed the child with her grandmother.

Police have sent a report to the prosecutor’s office for review.

She (the Mother) was uncooperative? Yep, charge her.

On an 85 degree day last week , I pulled into a parking lot to eat mylunch. I parked next to a car with a whimpering, barking spaniel (named Buddy) inside the car with all the windows rolled up. Ten minutes later two women came back to the car and drove away. No fooling....one minute later, a car pulled into the same spot and a woman got out and left her two small dogs in the car with the windows rolled down. She came back in five minutes. Now, another fool leaves a child by herself in a car on a hot day or any day. Are these fools so trusting of other people that they don't think someone will steal their kids or dogs...or that they perish or at least suffer in the heat?

Here is the rule: You do not have the right to be angry when you have done something so wrong. Look up the word contrite.

"Police found a 3-year-old girl in the vehicle sweating profusely." Throw the book at her.

Maybe it was just an "undocumented sweat lodge".

If this were my grandchild, the mother would have to fight like crazy to get the child back. What's the matter with some people?

I certainly hope this mother will face charges. I'm sure this child was happy to go to grandma's afterwards.

@Fester, how do you know the grandmother is not the father's mother?

You mean the Grandmother that raised the daughter who left her 3-year old in the car alone? Yeah...that makes a lot of sense
