McDonald was killed when the vehicle he was driving collided head-on about 7 a.m. with one driven by Richard Ogadinma, 21, of Ypsilanti on the I-94 service drive west of Beck Road, Van Buren Township police said.

Ogadinma was taken by Survival Flight helicopter to the University of Michigan Hospital with neck and leg injuries, police said. He was listed in good condition at the hospital Wednesday.

Police have said the crash occurred when one vehicle veered left of the centerline and the two vehicles collided head-on. Police said they had not determined what caused the vehicle to drift left of center, and they have not released any other information about it.

McDonald's family will receive visitors from 4 to 8 p.m. thursday at David C. Brown Temporary Viewing and Funeral Chapel, 500 E. Huron River Dr., Belleville.

According to an obituary posted on the funeral home's website, McDonald is survived by his wife, Tara (Doyle) McDonald; son Caleb McDonald; mother; Elizabeth (Glen) "Gamache" Lindemann of Belleville; sister, Jennifer Gamache, of Belleville; brother, Christopher Gamache of Westland; and grandparents; Dan DeBord and Margaret DeBord of Belleville.
