Seven bags of ice stolen from Ypsilanti Township party store

By Kyle Feldscher

Seven bags of ice were reported stolen from an outdoor cooler at the In & Out party store in Ypsilanti Township, according to police.

Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office deputies are continuing to investigate the theft, which occurred during the nighttime hours prior to the store opening on Monday, police said. The store is located at 1100 Share Ave.

The ice was contained in a cooler outside the store and a padlock secured the cooler, police said. The thief, or thieves, had cut off the padlock.

No other items were reported stolen.

Police did not have a description of the suspect, or suspects, available Tuesday. Anyone with information about this theft is encouraged to call the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office anonymous tip line at 734-973-7711.

Funny story. Too bad it's a crime because I would have loved to see Kyle put a fun spin on this crazy story.

Good Job Kyle, a theft is a theft and we have a thief in the area. (and theft is a crime).

Maybe someones is without power and a refridgerator full of perishable food items. To warm outside to save it, or it was to warm. Cols enough now.

I was thinking the same thing. Kyle just had to be brunt of a few jokes for him to report this fun ditty. Keep up the great work Kyle.

Seriously everyone, this is a great story. Why can't news be funny too. My wife, kids and I just laughed our butts off reading all these comments. I think this is one of the best stories I read all day LOL!

Really? I guess anytime time you can put Ypsilanti (Twp) in a crime headline. Shame on you aa.com, how this made it past the editors is beyond me.

7 bags of ice were stolen. Really?? So approximately $8 worth of ice was stolen? Does anyone really care? Come on Kyle. What were you thinking?

Hey! Lay off of poor Kyle. I can tell you, as a former reporter, that Kyle probably wasn't jumping out of his seat to report on this one. Plus, it's just a police beat write-up. They used to have these in the paper-paper, but they were compiled into a lump of stupid crime stories, so it made more sense. Maybe A2.com should think about doing a police blotter instead. Filing these random crimes as individual stories does, however, lend to a general air of absurdity that leads to excellent commenting by the A2.com commenting community. I'm surprised that Goodnight and Good Luck guy isn't on here yet.

Good suggestion Jordan. The old version of A2 Newspaper did use to have a crime blotter. Maybe they might want to go back to that again.

Wonder why they stopped at seven bags. I'd like to meet the guy with the awesome responsibility of going out bright and early every January morning to count the bags of ice. Do you need a four-year degree?

A2.com never misses a chance to report on crime in Ypsi EVER ,if a kid got caught stealing a candy bar they would report it

I am bothered that they choose this story over the 8 bags of ice stolen on the other side of town.

Unbelievable! I looked out the window this morning and it was raining with hail or ice too. I can't even believe this was news worthy. There was a cruise liner that capsized of the Italian coast and no word found here, there was an accident in Dexter, and no words found here, but a ten dollar heist has found its way here. I don't understand why the ice was stolen, but I'm sure you will tell as soon as it comes available.

The same guy who stole the ice likely bought a keg over the weekend and panicked when the weather got warm. My deductive reasoning has cracked the case. SCIENCE!

THANKS TO GLOBAL WARMING, this sort of crime will become more and more common! It's all Obama's fault! And George Bush's (both of them) fault, and Mitt Romney, and Snyder. It's time to wake up, people and take back America! ICE CUBES AND ALL!!!

Kyle: Really? Do you have any input into what stories you bother to put before us? This has hit an all time low for having any relevance. There was what appeared to be a serious accident this past week at Zeeb & Jackson rd. It looked like a number of teenagers from Dexter were involved. NOT a SINGLE word have I seen on a2.com! Please let me know if I missed it. I suppose if there had been a dozen eggs broken it would have merited coverage.

Is there a black market for ice? If someone is trying to fence the heisted ice, there's a lot of loss unless you keep it frozen.

Little clear icy cubes that come in a 1 lbs bag or so. Might be cold when seen or melted into water. I heard the other word for ice is frozen h20.

Thanks annarbor.com. Now I know it's time to scurry to the bomb shelter while I still have precious bodily fluids to conserve. It's the end of the world as we know it. Nothing is sacred anymore. It's Obama's fault, of course.

Some crimes don't require a paragraph of details...it's ice. The business owner marks that ice up 80%...probably a 10 dollar loss - total!

That is what's known as a "cool crime". The perpetrator has yet to be put on ice.
