Shooting reported in Ypsilanti Township apartment complex

By Paula Gardner

Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies are investigating reports of a shooting early Thursday in Ypsilanti Township and found a car with bullet holes in an apartment complex parking lot.

No victims have come forward in the incident at Village Grove Apartments in the 1000 block of Share, according to sheriff's spokesman Derrick Jackson.

The incident was reported to police in the early morning hours, according to a statement from police.

The incident follows recent gunfire at the In & Out Party Store in the 1100 block of Share, across Harris Road from the apartments.

It also follows an incident on Oct. 17 at Village Grove when two men were hospitalized following a shooting inside one of the apartments. Jermaine Beverly has been charged in that case.

"It's too early to say if it's related or not related to any other incident," Jackson said of today's incident in an email.

Further information was not available, he added.

First - Federal laws prevent Landlords from doing much. These laws all stem from the 1960's If they pay their rent they are entitled to their living quarters. Second - How many people affected in the neighborhood are willing to testify to what the see going on - in other words support the police? Third - Are the residents of Ypsilanti willing to pay more in taxes for more police? Fourth - With out the co-operation of everybody affected it will continue to get worse because the criminals see themselves winning.

I just knew it was going to be that apartment complex when I saw the headline... As someone who lives very close to that complex and the In N Out store, I really do wish they'd do something about the crime in the area. I agree with Jim Duggin, it has gotten noticably worse in the past year or so.

I live on Harris street. I am unfortunately a neighbor. Every night there are people doing drugs loud music and kids outside. The township must make them clean up this area. The last year it has gotten worse. A sign says there is security patrol but I only have seen security on the sign. The people meet with the cops and we tell them what we see. I see in the papers what the township is doing with other sites like this, this complex should be at the top of your list. Make them clean it up like you did lake in the woods, John duggan

Simple solution-- Tear down the apartments and the other problem ones near it. Build a prison on the vacated land. More jobs will result and the police won't have to transport the criminals that far since most of them live in that area anyway.

When is the township going to put pressure on the apartment owner to get this place in order? This place has been dangerous for a very long time. Most of the things in this area never get reported to the news.

Frustrated!

I couldn't agree more. I heard the township is trying to have the In and Out closed but the store is not the problem...it's the people that live around it! Village Grove should be demolished!!!!!!!
