Story of killer Christian Longo featured on ABC-TV's 'Final Witness'

By Paula Gardner

The story of an Ypsilanti man who moved his family to Oregon and then killed them before leading federal officials on a manhunt was dramatized Wednesday night on the ABC-TV show "Final Witness."

The show detailed the 2001 case that horrified the nation.

The bodies of Christian Longo's wife, MaryJane Longo, 34, and their children Zachery, 4, Sadie, 3, and Madison, 2, were found in a river near Waldport, Ore.

The killings exposed Longo's series of thefts and lies, prosecutors charged during his trial. They started when the family lived in Ypsilanti, continuing after their move west.

Longo is on death row for the crimes. He was convicted after fleeing to Mexico and landing on the FBI's "Most Wanted."

The "Final Witness" episode told the story through MaryJane Longo's eyes, in an episode called "Fatal Devotion."

What is man? Montyman has responded to my comment and stated that he is unaware of the substance of my statement. I am making an effort to spread the knowledge about man's true-self or real identity. Man's behavior is conditioned by external, environmental influences whereas the true nature, being an innate quality, is not affected by external influences. Man's spiritual nature is not acquired by learning or reading Bible or attending Worship Service. God has established man with His own nature and man has no choice or control over this innate nature. Man's conditioned behavior is the result of ignorance or living in darkness and not knowing his own true-self.

Man is a Spiritual Being: I had watched the Final Witness story on ABC and read the story about Christian Longo. I would still suggest that man is a spiritual being; a created being with moral, and rational nature. I do not judge Christian Longo for his actions. I do not ascertain his true or real nature by knowing his criminal acts. All of us have a duty to know and seek our own innate, true and real nature and get connected to that true and real person who exists in the physical world. Temptation to commit acts of sin arrives from an external environment while man is ignorant of his own true nature. However, I do not condone ignorance. I fully support the Death Sentence as ignorance is not an excuse for not knowing one's own spiritual nature.
