Is there anything other than metal bars that will stop a brick from going thru a window?

When bricks are outlawed, only outlaws will have bricks. Was this a salt brick or a semi-salt brick? Hollow brick or solid? Was the brick tosser armed or on foot? If the homeowner also had a brick, this story might have ended differently...
