Three men attack EMU student, steal his laptop early Wednesday morning

By Kyle Feldscher

An Eastern Michigan University student reported being robbed of his laptop computer while walking near Pease Auditorium early Wednesday morning.

The man was walking alone at about 4:40 a.m. Wednesday along the south side of Pease Auditorium when he was struck from behind and pushed to the ground by three men, according to police. The man reported his bag containing the laptop computer was taken by one of the men before the group ran away, according to an advisory on the EMU police website.

The men ran east on Cross Street when they were leaving the scene. The victim described them as having athletic builds, in their late teens or early 20s, and one suspect was wearing a gray sweatshirt and green sweatpants, police said.

The victim sustained minor injuries.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call the EMU police at 734-487-1222.

good thing law abiding citizens aren't allowed to carry a weapon on public university campuses....

I'm not a "gun person," but I agree that laws banning weapons in certain places are nothing short of ridiculous. Last time I checked, criminals don't follow the rules!

So now we are so politically correct conscious that we don't mention race when describing perps for possible identification? Of course i will keep my eye out for 3 athletic non descript men of no particular height or weight, i can't believe we haven't caught them already!

I wouldn't be out walking anywhere at 4:30 a.m. That particular area is usually pretty safe.

It seems some thugs don't sleep during the early hours, they sit out and watch for students to make their moves. (walking alone). We need to invent a watch that is more like a rear view mirror and carry pepper spray in the same hand,

Good idea. I think pepper spray is an essential item these days.

It's very sad that our society has come to this, that people are not able to walk in the early morning hours on or near a college campus without getting mugged and assaulted. Thugs are roaming the streets at all hours looking for targets, and people should not walk anywhere alone in the early morning hours. This kind of thing is happening in Ann Arbor as well. Very sad.

Glad to hear the guy is ok. Myself personally, I wouldn't be out at 4:40am walking in that area. But if that was the only time he could stufy or do research I guess I dont' blame him. I just hope they bring the COB to main campus. Glad I could get my MBA done in 2 years. Had some interesting situations in the parking garage and off Michigan at 9pm when classes got out. Nothing like goodbye to class like a drunk relieving himself while walking on the sidewalk as we are trying to get into our cars. Check please!

I'm sorry to hear this, I hope the victim will be okay and has his school work and/or research data backed up somewhere else. I have a friend who just finished his PhD in chemistry at UM and did a lot of his work during the night. I was always concerned about him leaving early in the morning like this...
