Willow Run Community Schools receives grant for service-learning program

Willow Run Community Schools received $15,000 in funding from the Michigan Community Service Commission for its service-learning program for the 2010-11 school year.

Willow Run is one of 25 school districts across the state receiving funding through the the Learn and Serve —Michigan grant.. The MCSC gave out more than $476,000 total in grants to Michigan schools

Willow Run operates its service-learning program through Eastern Michigan University Bright Futures Program, which works with three area school districts.

Service-learning programs are used to connect community service with classroom instruction, which can enrich learning, teach civic responsibility and foster personal growth, according to the MCSC. The Learn and Serve — Michigan grant program is administered by the MCSC in a partnership with the Michigan Department of Education. The program is a part of Learn and Serve America.
