Two men, one armed with a rifle, stole a woman’s cellphone, wallet and keys early Friday morning in Ypsilanti, police said.

The victim, a 19-year-old Ypsilanti resident, was getting out of her vehicle in the 700 block of Green Road about 2:30 a.m. Friday when two men approached her, police said in a press release. The woman said one of the men was carrying what she described as a hunting-type rifle.

She reported the men went through her pockets and took her wallet, cellphone and keys. She said the men who robbed her were in their early 20s. Both had bald heads and dark complexions.

Ypsilanti police who went to investigate stopped a suspicious vehicle seen leaving the area. They questioned the suspects and identified them but did not arrest them.

Lt. Paul DeRitter said the men were stopped because police thought it was suspicious they were in the area so soon after the incident. The woman was asked to identify the men as suspects, but she said she did not recognize them.

The men are not currently suspects in the case, DeRitter said.

Police continue to investigate. Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Tom Eberts at 734-482-9878 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAKUP (773-2587).
