Ypsilanti police have arrested a 41-year-old Ypsilanti man suspected of trying to grab a 19-year-old Eastern Michigan University student Saturday in a parking lot outside an apartment building in the 200 block of Ballard Street.

He was being held Thursday at the Washtenaw County Jail. He was arrested Wednesday afternoon in the 300 block of Pearl Street after the woman provided a description to police. The man was wanted on an unrelated civil warrant and a bench warrant on a charge of larceny, said Sgt. Troy Fulton.

A media release describes the encounter Saturday as follows:

The man approached the woman and tried to talk to her. When she indicated she didn't want to engage with him, the man grabbed her by her shoulders. The woman tried to push him away, and he slapped her face. She was able to escape after kneeing him in the groin and running to her car.

Anyone with further information regarding the case is encouraged to call Fulton at 734-482-9878 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAKUP (773-2587).
