Police search apartment of suspect in string of Ypsilanti burglaries

By Lee Higgins

Ypsilanti police said they executed a search warrant Sunday afternoon at a South Washington Street apartment during an investigation into seven recent burglaries and attempted burglaries at businesses in the downtown area.

Investigators recovered evidence at the apartment that they believe links a 30-year-old man to at least three of the burglaries, Det. Sgt. Troy Fulton said.

Fulton declined to specify what was recovered but said investigators are seeking charges against the man. The man recently moved to the apartment, but is originally from Detroit, Fulton said.

The five break-ins and two attempted break-ins occurred between Nov. 21 and Nov. 27 on North Washington Street, South Washington Street, West Michigan Avenue and Pearl Street, police said. Cash and other items were taken.

Police expect to release further details this afternoon.

Having a police scanner and crime alert, I will not be commenting as much as normal. I hear it all going down right here at home. Most only hear about 1/4 of what Police Officers deal with, week days or week ends. Believe me, they all do a great job in public safety. (often above and beyond).
