Ypsilanti school administrators will decide fate of student service coordinators
A committee of the Ypsilanti school board has decided to let administrators decide whether to eliminate student service coordinators from the district's schools, the Ypsilanti Courier reported.
The positions were eliminated from the budget to save money, but principals have stressed the importance of the coordinators at individual schools, so now administrators, including David Houle, the district's chief financial officer, will make the final decision, according to the article.
The deficit elimination plan required by the state says eliminating the student services coordinators will save about $1.3 million over the next four years. The plan is meant to eliminate an estimated $26 million deficit in the next four years.
Principals told the board in March that not having the coordinators would make their jobs much harder.
Ypsilanti Education President Kelly Powers said schools would not have a safe environment without the positions.

this story needs context - what do the student service coordinators do? why are they so important? why would they be missed? how much do they earn? "Principals told the board in March that not having the coordinators would make their jobs much harder" -- why? can we get some context in these stories so we dont have more questions after reading them?
